The Victim/Witness Assistance Program Brochure - Your Rights as a Crime Victim

Our office was notified by The Governor’s office on June 19,2026 that there were a few important updates to be included in this Victims’ Rights Brochure. Please note the following changes:

On page 3 under the heading Who Is A Victim? The corrected section of the Florida Constitution is Article 1, section16 (e), Florida Constitution

On page 9 under the heading Additional Victims’ Rights Under Florida Statutes The corrected website for Bureau of Crimes Compensation, Office of Attorney General is www.myfloridalegal.com/victim-compensation  Also in that section under the right of the victim of domestic violence to be informed about The Address Confidentiality Program, now victims of dating violence share the same right.

On page 10 under the first section regarding the right to receive advance notification of judicial and post judicial proceedings there is a section about the right to be notified about the release of the accused. This right now includes being notified of the release of a juvenile offender from residential commitment.

On page 12 the second paragraph talks about a victim’s right to be informed  that if contacted by an attorney, investigator or any other agent acting on behalf of the criminal defendant ,the victim has the right to be informed of the name and employer of the caller as well as  the fact such person is acting on behalf of the defendant. We have updated this now with the statute number which is Section 960.001 (1) (w) Florida Statutes.

On page 14 the website for the Office of Attorney General Crimes Compensation has been updated to www.myfloridalegal.com/victim-compensation
